Club have £30m request to sign Arsenal star ‘approved’ by president

Despite being only seven games into the 2025/26 season, one Arsenal player’s future seems to have been decided.

The summer transfer window slammed shut on the first day of September, and already, one Arsenal player is looking to depart.

Though Arsenal’s summer 2025 arrivals had fans in awe of Andrea Berta, the sporting director wasn’t able to improve the Gunners’ poor history of selling players.

That could change, however, as just seven games into the season, Gabriel Jesus’ future is being spoken about, with a sizeable move touted.

Palmeiras approve Gabriel Jesus transfer from Arsenal

Arsenal are open to selling Jesus in the near future, with a departure having the possibility of coming as soon as January.

The Brazilian’s future has been discussed both in England and abroad, as West Ham have been linked to signing Jesus, but a move elsewhere is now accelerating.

In Brazil, it’s been reported by Mix Vale that Palmeiras have ‘approved’ the signing of Jesus, who is an academy product of the club.

It’s claimed that Palmeiras’ board of directors have ‘approved the signing’ for the 2026 season.

The decision was made by club president Leila Pereira, who is said to be ‘amid advanced negotiations’ with Arsenal over a deal that could reach as much as £30m.

The Brazilian outlet claim that Everton and AC Milan have also ‘expressed interest’, but Jesus is said to prioritise a transfer back to his homeland.

It’s not guaranteed that a move could happen in January; however, the winter transfer window is considered to be a peak time for the two clubs to ‘accelerate negotiations’.

Like any transfer, there are some obstacles to clear, one of which is Jesus’ salary, as the striker is one of Arsenal’s highest earners right now.

Palmeiras’ board are reported to be planning to adjust the contract to ‘align with Brazilian football standards’, showing their desire to make the move happen.

Jesus’ injury history at Arsenal

It’s not only the finances behind the deal that Palmeiras are carefully considering, as it would be naive to discard any worries about Jesus’ injury history.

Mix Vale have reported that the Brazilian club are ‘prioritising medical examinations’ before thinking about finalising the move.

Undoubtedly, the biggest tragedy of Jesus’ time at Arsenal has been his injury woes, as without fitness struggles, the striker would’ve had a huge impact on Mikel Arteta’s project.

There were high hopes when Jesus signed from Manchester City in 2022, but since then, the forward has missed an eye-watering 559 days of action to injury, and counting.

Jesus has made 96 appearances for Arsenal so far, which is, tragically, only six more matches than he’s missed due to injury.

It’s been a devastating ride for the former Man City star at the Emirates, with the latest update suggesting that the end is in sight.
