Report: Madueke facing two months out

According to The Athletic, Noni Madueke is facing two months on the sidelines after injuring his knee in Sunday’s 1-1 draw with Manchester City.

Mikel Arteta confirmed afterwards that the England international had picked up the issue early on but managed to reach half-time before being replaced by the returning Bukayo Saka.

Madueke has at least avoided the worst-case scenario – an ACL injury – but it’s a frustrating setback after such a promising start to life at the Emirates.

Injuries have (again) become an unwelcome theme this season, with at least one Arsenal player sidelined after every league fixture so far. Kai Havertz underwent knee surgery after the opening game at Manchester United, Bukayo Saka strained his hamstring against Leeds, and Martin Odegaard damaged his shoulder in the same match, an issue he aggravated versus Nottingham Forest. William Saliba, meanwhile, hurt himself in the warm-up before the defeat to Liverpool and had to come off early.

Over the next two months, Arsenal face 10 games across three competitions before hosting Sp*rs in the north London derby – a realistic target for Madueke’s return.

In the meantime, Max Dowman is likely to be promoted to provide cover for Saka, while Ethan Nwaneri may also be used on the right despite being predominantly utilised as a No.10 this season. On the left, the responsibility will need to be shared between Leandro Trossard, Gabriel Martinelli and Eberechi Eze.

Arteta is due to face the media this afternoon and should provide a further update then.
