Arsenal’s striker search just took yet another twist thanks to Andrea Berta, it is a dangerous path for Mikel Arteta

Arsenal fans are becoming bored with the rumbling striker saga at the club.

It has been clear for two seasons that Arsenal require a world-class number nine to help elevate them to Premier League or Champions League glory.

Kai Havertz has been outstanding in the role for Mikel Arteta’s side, however, it is not his natural position and when the crunch moments occur in games, his lack of predatory instinct in front of goal shows.

Arteta sent a clear message to Andrea Berta at the end of last season that he wants attacking reinforcements and as we begin to head into pre-season preparations, there is still no sign of one on the horizon.

Benjamin Sesko talks stalling with ‘nurtured’ relationships no longer present

Arsenal have been chasing Benjamin Sesko since last summer and the striker is Arteta’s number one choice to fill the void up top.

According to Sami Mobkel at BBC Sport, former sporting directors Edu Gaspar and Jason Ayto had ‘nurtured’ relationships with the player’s agent Elvis Basanovic.

Following Berta’s arrival, those relationships are no longer present and there are indications that the Gunners are considering moving on to other targets due to a stalemate in talks for the Slovenian.

Arteta needs to demand a striker before the club’s pre-season tour to Asia and this latest development will not give him any confidence that he will be able to work with his new signing.

Andrea Berta could get his own way with Viktor Gyokeres signing

As mentioned by Mobkel, Arsenal could be set to move on from Sesko and focus on other targets. Progress has been made over the signing of Viktor Gyokeres in recent days.

Berta is a big fan of Gyokeres and the Swedish international was not even on the Gunners shortlist before the new sporting director arrived at the club.

There is no doubting Gyokeres is an immensely talented player, however, there are reservations at Arsenal over his ability to produce in the Premier League.

If Berta gets his way on this deal and it doesn’t work out with Gyokeres, it would make the relationship between Arteta and the Italian one to watch in the coming months.
