Arsenal have faced a new threat in their hope of tying Myles Lewis-Skelly down to a new contract in the coming weeks.

The Hale End academy graduate has enjoyed a breakout season for the Gunners, in which he has regularly featured.

Despite being a midfielder in the academy, Mikel Arteta has often used Myles Lewis-Skelly as a left-back who can invert into the central areas.

While the 18-year-old has become a regular for Arsenal, there have been some growing doubts about his future.

Just one year remains on Lewis-Skelly’s contract, putting some concern over a possible stay for the youngster.

It’s no surprise that Lewis-Skelly’s impressive breakthrough campaign has seen him linked with interest elsewhere.

With a dwindling contract, Arsenal have faced a battle to keep hold of the versatile star, one which is still ongoing.

Real Madrid have been linked with a transfer for Lewis-Skelly, as the Spanish side look to swoop for another potential free agent.

However, according to Fabrizio Romano, Arsenal are confident of sealing a new deal for the academy graduate, with talks claimed to be “advanced”.

It’s also stated that, despite transfer interest elsewhere, Arsenal are calm as he closes in on a contract.

It comes as a huge potential boost for sporting director Andrea Berta, who will be looking to build the Arsenal squad further.

While Lewis-Skelly appears to be closing in on a new contract, there are still others who need extensions.

Arsenal contracts to sign after Myles Lewis-Skelly extension

While signing Lewis-Skelly to a new contract is a good thing, it’s just the start for Arsenal, who need to make more moves to shore up the squad.

Gabriel Magalhaes recently extended his contract, meaning that Bukayo Saka and William Saliba remain in that two-year range that will concern the Gunners.

Ethan Nwaneri is in talks over a new contract, which would only help secure his long-term future at the club.

Then there are situations over Leandro Trossard and Gabriel Martinelli to consider, before looking at the market for additions.
